India imposes restriction on import of colour TV

New Delhi: he government of India has taken another stern action against China. It announced restrictions on import of colour television sets from China. This move is likely to push local manufacturing of television while also reducing imports from abroad.

 

India imported colour television sets worth about $781 million in 2019-20, with majority shipments coming in from Vietnam ($428 million) and China ($292 million). Other significant exporters of colour television set include Malaysia, Hong Kong, Korea, Thailand and Germany

Import policy of colour television set is amended from ‘Free’ to ‘Restricted’,” the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification issued on Thursday. A huge share of colour TV market it occupied by Chinese product. The move of restriction will come with many challenges for Indian manufacturers. But at the same time it is a great opportunity to them to prove themselves in the market.
